A hidden gem in Ireland

No more gatekeeping...

Adara, Donegal

Staycations and road trips in Ireland is one of life's simple pleasures. Each year my family and I head on an adventure to the south to places we have never visited before. Now I am older I have began to go on these road trips and staycations with my friends. Therefore... this blog is dedicated to just that; the first time my friends and I went to Adara and discovered how it was a massive hidden gem.

In summer 2022, my friends and I went on our first every 'lads holiday' to Greece for a week. Although after being home for 2 weeks we started to reminisce and miss being on holiday together. Therefore, we decided to book a staycation for 3 nights to Adara in Donegal. We packed our bags, jumped in our cars and enjoyed car pool karaoke the whole way.

Once we arrived in Adara we thought we had driven to the wrong place, it had a few bars, a corner shop and a couple of takeaways. We decided we would find our B&B (which wasn't hard) and hit the road again to start exploring.

📍Assaranaca Waterfall

On our way to find the first hidden gem of the holiday we discovered this amazing waterfall, the perfect photo opportunity for all your photographers out there. Crazy how a simple waterfall can be so therapeutic.

As it was a beautiful sunny day, we searched up where the closest beach was to us. This is when we discovered the most amazing hidden gem of them all👀

📍Maghera Beach and caves

I have visited many of beaches however, none have topped this one yet. Maghera beach and caves is the perfect definition of  'a walk on the beach'. With what it felt like never ending hidden caves, and rocks to climb for days, this was my favourite place to explore the whole duration of our time here. If you're thinking of visiting this one, bring your swimwear for sure!

To conclude my blog, Adara is definitely one of many hidden gems in Ireland. From never knowing this little place existed, to wanting to go back in a heartbeat. I can confirm this is in my top 5 places from my travels so far.

Here I have added more recommendations threw photographs some which include sign posts to help locate more hidden gems😌
